Over 7,000 people have been evacuated in the suburbs of Buenos Aires and some towns in the province of the same name due to flooding caused by torrential rains, the newspaper La Nación reported, citing regional authorities.
Three people have been reported missing. Some of the evacuees left the disaster area on their own.
The torrential rains have continued in Buenos Aires and its suburbs since Friday. During this time, more than 400 mm of precipitation has fallen. The provincial government warned that a red alert remains in place in the affected areas due to expected hurricane-force winds, rainfall and thunderstorms.
In March, flooding in the city of Bahia Blanca, located in Buenos Aires province, killed 18 people. Then, in less than a day, about 300 mm of rain fell in the settlement.
