Police removed Romanian presidential candidate and leader of the nationalist party "Alliance for the Unification of Romanians" (AUR) Gheorghe Simion, and the frontrunner in last year's annulled election, Calin Georgescu, from a polling station in the Bucharest suburb of Mogosoaia.

Politicians tried to make statements to the press after the vote, but police insisted they leave the premises.

“What you just did is not good“, Simion told the officer, and the incident was broadcast on his Facebook page.

Security officers informed the politicians that public statements were prohibited in the voting area, after which they were forced to move to the school hallway, where they set up a polling station.

After leaving the building, Georgescu told reporters that he had voted "for a Christian Romania" and "for family values".
