Iran has called on the United States to provide clear guarantees for the lifting of economic sanctions that have severely affected the Iranian economy. The reaction comes after Washington proposed a possible new nuclear deal, Agence France-Presse and Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai said that his country expects concrete signals of a change in the US position on sanctions - one that "we have not seen yet".
“We want guarantees that the sanctions will indeed be lifted“, Baghai stressed. He said the United States must present a mechanism to ensure that economic restrictions are not reimposed, as has happened in the past.
Washington and Tehran are continuing negotiations to reach a long-term agreement to end the decades-long dispute over Iran's nuclear program.
