Ryanair plane makes emergency landing in Germany, 9 passengers injured - 1

A Ryanair plane made an emergency landing in southern Germany last night after 9 passengers were injured in severe turbulence caused by a thunderstorm, Reuters reported, citing police. The plane was flying to Milan, in northern Italy, the agency explained, BTA reported.

According to a statement by police in the German state of Bavaria, the pilot requested an emergency landing at Memmingen airport, about 113 km from Munich.

The passengers injured in the severe turbulence are between the ages of 2 and 59, police said. Among them is a woman with head injuries and her 2-year-old child with contusions and bruises. A 59-year-old woman complained of back pain. All three are currently in hospital, police said. The other injured received medical treatment on site at the airport.

The low-cost airline arranged for the passengers to be transferred to Milan by bus because local authorities had not allowed flights from Memmingen at the time due to bad weather, police said. The Reuters report did not specify where the plane was travelling from.
