The Speaker of the Russian Parliament Vyacheslav Volodin warned in a message to the deputies in Berlin against an escalation of tensions between his country and Germany, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
"The current ruling elite of Germany is creating conditions for aggravating the situation and provoking clashes between our countries," Volodin's message to the leaders of the main parliamentary parties in Germany says.
The question is whether the German population wants confrontation, said the head of the State Duma in Moscow.
"We do not want this. But if it comes to that, then we are ready for it," Volodin said, referring to Berlin's increasing support for Kiev in the war in Ukraine, which has been going on for four years.
"We know that the German government is planning to establish missile production in Ukraine. This means that Germany is increasingly involved in military actions against Russia," Volodin said.
"You understand where this can lead," he said, referring to World War II.
The specific reason for his criticism was the statements of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who praised the United States for liberating Germany from the Nazis during his meeting with US President Donald Trump this week.
Volodin accused Merz of not remembering the great contribution of the Soviet Union to the victory over Nazi Germany.
"It was the Soviet Union that defeated fascism and saved the planet from the brown plague," the State Duma speaker said.
