Russia has launched another major drone attack in Ukraine, hitting Kiev and damaging a maternity ward in Odessa, regional officials said early on Monday, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

The overnight attacks followed the largest Russian drone attack in Ukraine on Monday - part of intensified operations that Moscow said were retaliation for Kiev's recent bold actions on Russian territory.

Medics were called to four districts of Kiev a few hours after midnight on Monday, including the historic Podil district, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram.

The military said the strikes were still ongoing and urged people to seek bomb shelters. The full extent of the attack was not immediately clear, Reuters reported.

"Enemy drones are simultaneously attacking several areas of the city," Timur Tkachenko, head of Kiev's military administration, said on the Telegram messaging app. "There is damage to residential buildings and fires. Rescuers are working on the scene."

Witnesses told Reuters of a series of loud explosions across the city.

A "massive" drone attack was carried out in the southern port of Odessa, targeting an emergency medical service building and a maternity ward, as well as residential buildings, Oleh Kiper, governor of Odessa region, said on Telegram.

There were no injuries at the maternity hospital, and patients and staff were evacuated, Kiper said. He posted photos of broken wires and damaged building facades.

The Russian civil aviation authority "Rosaviatsia" said early on Monday that it had temporarily suspended flights at the four main airports serving Moscow to ensure safety, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

This came after the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Ukraine had carried out a drone attack against Russia.
