Russia remains ready to act as a mediator in the conflict between Israel and Iran, with Moscow's proposal to store Iranian uranium on Russian territory remaining valid. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by Reuters, reports News.bg.

According to him, the Russian initiative to transport highly enriched uranium from Iran for the purpose of processing it into fuel for civilian reactors remains “on the table“, although the military escalation has significantly complicated the situation.

“The proposal is still relevant. But with the outbreak of hostilities, the situation has become seriously complicated“, Peskov stressed.

Iran claims that its nuclear program is for entirely peaceful purposes. However, the rapid development of uranium enrichment capabilities has raised concerns in both Western countries and Gulf Arab states that Tehran is seeking to build a nuclear weapon.

Last week, before Israel launched air strikes on Iranian targets, Moscow proposed a diplomatic solution through a controlled removal of sensitive nuclear materials from Iran.

US President Donald Trump also expressed hope for a quick peace, hinting at the possibility of Russian President Vladimir Putin playing a role in the process.

Peskov confirmed that Russia was ready to mediate if necessary, but stressed that real progress required addressing the root causes of the conflict.

„Russia is ready to do whatever is necessary to eliminate the root causes of this crisis. But the situation has escalated significantly, which further complicates efforts for a peaceful solution," the spokesman said.

In response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statement yesterday that military action could lead to regime change in Iran, Peskov commented that the Kremlin was aware of these words and perceived them as alarming.

"We condemn the actions that led to this dangerous escalation of tensions in the region. At the same time, we note a significant consolidation of Iranian society against the backdrop of Israeli bombing," he said.
