“We affirm that Israel has the right to self-defense. We support its security“, the document states. According to the G7 countries, Iran is a leading source of regional instability and terrorism. They stressed that Tehran should not be allowed to have nuclear weapons.
The leaders called for a diplomatic solution to the Iranian crisis and a ceasefire in the Middle East, including in the Gaza Strip.
The conflict between Iran and Israel escalated on June 13, when Israel carried out air strikes on Iranian targets, justifying its actions by the need to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Since then, the two countries have exchanged blows, increasing tensions throughout the region.
For its part, Iran denies having ambitions to create nuclear weapons and claims that it is developing nuclear technology only for peaceful purposes. As a party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Tehran insists on its right to enrich uranium within the framework of international law.
