Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone call with US President Donald Trump, in which he stressed that New Delhi does not need mediation to resolve the Kashmir issue with Pakistan. This was reported to journalists by India's First Deputy Foreign Minister Vikram Misri.

The conversation between Modi and Trump lasted 35 minutes and was held at the request of the US President. According to Misri, the Indian Prime Minister told the US President that India does not need mediation by a third party to resolve the Kashmir issue with Pakistan. “Prime Minister Modi stressed that India has never agreed to mediation, does not accept it now and will never do so. There is complete political consensus on this issue“, Misri stressed.

The Indian foreign minister recalled that it was Pakistan that requested a ceasefire during the Indian military's Operation Sindoor, which was carried out after the terrorist attack in the tourist town of Pahalgam in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. “Negotiations for the cessation of hostilities were held directly between India and Pakistan through existing channels established between the two armed forces, which was done at the request of Pakistan“, Misri said.

Earlier, Trump announced the US's intention to try to find a solution to the territorial dispute between India and Pakistan. He also claimed that his administration had managed to prevent a nuclear war between the two countries. Indian diplomats stressed that resolving the Kashmir dispute was a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan and did not require mediation by third parties.
