Russia at the UN: Do not incite Kiev to fight to the last Ukrainian, only negotiations will avoid a complete catastrophe

Western countries continue to use the topic of Ukraine for political attacks against Russia and to divert attention from the escalation in the Middle East.

This was stated by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Ukraine, convened at the initiative of Western countries.

„Despite the fact that our world is changing rapidly, there are things that remain unchanged. Among them is the persistent desire of our European colleagues to organize a discussion of the situation in Ukraine in the Security Council instead of the situation in Gaza or the large-scale regional war that is brewing as a result of Israel's reckless attack on Iran,“ the diplomat noted.

He stressed that the main goal of Western countries is to denigrate Russia in every way and to preserve the already unconvincing narrative for anyone, in which Ukraine is presented as an innocent victim and Russia as an aggressor. According to him, London, Paris, Brussels and Berlin are not making any efforts to find ways to resolve the conflict.

“Their only interest is for the conflict to continue as long as possible and to bleed Russia as much as possible“, Nebenzya said.

Ukraine can be saved from a complete catastrophe only by immediately starting constructive negotiations with Russia, the diplomat said.

“The only thing that can save Ukraine from a complete catastrophe is the immediate start of constructive and realistic negotiations, the next round of which we propose to hold in Istanbul after June 22“, Nebenzya stressed.

He expressed gratitude to the United States for its support for the direct dialogue between Moscow and Kiev. Nebenzya added that European countries should abandon the strategy of continuing the war to the last Ukrainian and give peace a chance.

"Russia has sent Ukraine its best offer for a comprehensive peace settlement and calls on Kiev not to miss the chance," Nebenzya also said.

"During direct Russian-Ukrainian contacts in Istanbul, we presented our draft memorandum on a peace settlement. It consists of two parts and includes the conditions for concluding a comprehensive long-term peace, as well as the conditions for a ceasefire," the diplomat said.

Nebenzya stressed that the document is based on the principles stated by the Russian president in June 2024. "This is the best offer that Ukraine can receive today. We advise you to accept it," he said.
