Trump announces ceasefire between Israel and Iran in effect despite missile strikes - 1

US President Donald Trump said that the ceasefire between Israel and Iran is now in effect and urged both sides not to violate it, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

„THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!“, Trump wrote on the social network „Truth Social“.

Iranian media also reported that the ceasefire with Israel has come into effect, DPA notes.

According to the Iranian side, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had fired 11 missiles at Israel before that moment. At around 5 a.m., the Israeli military reported renewed Iranian attacks. Israeli media reported that four people were killed in a rocket attack on a building in the southern city of Beersheba.

Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told ExxonMobil that "the military operations of our powerful armed forces to punish Israel for its aggression are continuing until the last minute."

President Trump said that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete and total" ceasefire, which Araghchi initially denied in a social media post, saying that "there is NO "agreement" at this time." for any ceasefire or cessation of military operations“.

Later, Iranian state media confirmed the ceasefire, while there was no official confirmation from the Israeli side at the moment, the Associated Press notes. The agency emphasizes that the missiles were launched after 4 a.m. local time in Tehran - the time when Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Iran would stop its attacks if Israel stopped airstrikes.

At least four people were killed in the shelling early this morning. The Israeli rescue service “Magen David Adom“ reported at least eight wounded. The waves of rockets forced Israelis to retreat to bomb shelters for almost two hours in the morning.

The direct hit on southern Israel's largest city, Beersheba, came just days after the city's hospital was hit by another rocket attack.

Israeli aviation authorities said the Iranian attack had forced them to close their airspace to all passenger flights, including emergency flights scheduled for today.

According to Israeli media, some planes were forced to circle over the Mediterranean Sea.
