The French armed forces have taken part in actions to intercept Iranian drones targeting Israel shortly before the ceasefire came into effect this week. This was stated by French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu, quoted by the „Reuters“ agency, reports News.bg.
“I can confirm that the French army has shot down less than 10 drones in the last few days during various operations carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Israel - using surface-to-air systems or our Rafale fighter jets“, Le Corneille said during a parliamentary debate on the crisis in the Middle East.
He said that during the 12-day conflict, Iran fired around 400 ballistic missiles and 1,000 drones at Israel.
On June 13, Israel responded with air strikes on Iranian territory, saying the aim was to neutralize Tehran's nuclear threat. The attacks destroyed part of the Iranian military's command staff and led to the deaths of several leading nuclear scientists. According to Iranian authorities, the Israeli strikes have killed 610 people and injured nearly 5,000.
Iranian retaliation has killed at least 28 people in Israel and damaged hundreds of buildings. The ceasefire went into effect on Tuesday.
