Tel Aviv rally calls for end to Gaza war, Trump says Netanyahu on verge of deal with Hamas - 1

Thousands of people took to the streets of Tel Aviv last night to once again call on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war in the Gaza Strip and secure the release of hostages still being held by the radical Palestinian group "Hamas", DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that a ceasefire in Gaza could be reached "as early as next week".

At the same time, Israeli officials insisted that expectations should not be too high on this issue, DPA reported.

The Islamist movement "Hamas" carried out a surprise cross-border attack on Israeli territory on October 7, 2023.

This attack marked the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip that continues to this day. According to Israeli data, about 1,200 people were killed at that time and 251 hostages were taken.

According to information from the "Hamas" Health Ministry, the number of Palestinians killed in the enclave in the Israeli retaliatory offensive has now exceeded 56,400.

US President Donald Trump announced that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in the process of negotiating a deal with the radical Palestinian group "Hamas" for the release of Israeli hostages held by it, Reuters reported.

Netanyahu is in the process of negotiations with "Hamas" "right now", Trump wrote in a post on his social network "Truth Social", without giving further details, Reuters specifies.

The president told media representatives on Friday that in his opinion, a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip would come soon.

In general, this post by Trump was in defense of Netanyahu regarding the case against the prime minister on corruption charges, Reuters notes.

"The trial of Bibi Netanyahu must be terminated or this great hero who did so much for his country must be pardoned," the Republican wrote on his social network "Truth Social" three days ago.

Considering how many billions of dollars the US has given to Israel, Washington will not "put up with this", the American head of state has now said.

"It is INSANE what the out-of-control prosecutors are doing to Bibi Netanyahu, Trump said. According to him, the case is hindering the Israeli Prime Minister in negotiations with "Hamas" and Iran.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrinth has left for Israel, DPA reported, calling the visit "surprising".

Dobrinth is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, Defense Minister Israel Katz and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer tomorrow, a German government spokesman said.

"Support for Israel includes on-the-ground talks and getting to know the situation," Dobrinth was quoted as saying by DPA. "I want to show that we stand behind Israel as our close partner in the fight against terrorism," he added.

The purpose of the visit is also to learn about Israel's experience in military and civil defense. The two are interconnected, noted Germany's interior minister, who took office with Chancellor Friedrich Merz's confirmation on May 6 of this year.

"We need to adapt to new threats," he said, drawing attention to the fact that Israel is ahead of Germany in terms of cybersecurity.
