About 4.28 million Ukrainian refugees have found asylum in the European Union since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This is according to Eurostat data as of the end of May 2025, News.bg reports.
The largest number of Ukrainians under temporary protection is registered in:

Germany – 1,192,840 people,

Poland – 986,845 people,

Czech Republic – 373,675 people.
Compared to the end of April 2025, the total number of Ukrainian refugees in the EU has increased by 10,825 people (or 0.3%). An increase was recorded in 23 Member States, with the highest growth in:

Germany (+3,485),

Czech Republic (+3,075),
-
Spain (+2,110).
The most significant decrease was observed in:

Netherlands (−9,270),
-
France (−445),
-
Slovakia (−155).
In relation to the population of individual countries, the highest proportion of Ukrainians under temporary protection (per 1000 population) is reported in:

Czech Republic – 34.3,

Poland – 26.9,
-
Estonia – 24.9.
The EU average is 9.5 per 1000 people.
According to Eurostat data, as of May 31, 2025, Ukrainian citizens accounted for 98.4% of persons with temporary protection in the EU. Women accounted for 44.6%, minors – 31.4%, and men – 23.9% of the total.
On 13 June 2025, the European Council adopted a decision to extend temporary protection for another year – until 4 March 2027
