The High Court in Novi Sad returned the case of the tragedy with the fallen visor at the local railway station, in which 16 people died, to the prosecutor's office, BGNES reports, News.bg reports.
The decision opens the possibility of removing procedural obstacles and resuming the investigation.
Earlier this month, the court rejected all requests from the defendants and their lawyers, including proposals to exclude evidence and carry out additional procedural actions.
At the end of 2024 The prosecutor's office in Novi Sad has indicted 13 people, including former Transport Minister Goran Vesic, his associate Anita Dimoski and former director of the “Infrastructure of Serbian Railways“ Jelena Tanaskovic. Together with former director Nebojsa Šurlan, they are accused of a serious crime against public security.
In parallel, the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime is conducting a preliminary investigation into the financing of the Novi Sad train station renovation project.
The collapse of the canopy occurred just four months after the official opening of the renovated building, which was attended by high-ranking state officials. The tragedy sparked mass protests across Serbia, demanding political and criminal accountability from the authorities.
