Denys Shmygal resigns as Prime Minister of Ukraine - 1

On July 15, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal officially resigned, publishing his statement on his Telegram channel. His decision comes after President Volodymyr Zelensky announced upcoming changes in the composition of the government and the nomination of Yulia Sviridenko as the new Prime Minister, Focus reports.

“I am grateful to our defenders who hold the front line and defend Ukraine! I am grateful to President Volodymyr Zelensky for the trust he has shown! Thank you to the entire team for their tireless work for our country! Glory to Ukraine!“, Shmygal wrote.

Yulia Sviridenko, who until now was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, has been nominated to take over the leadership of the cabinet. She announced that the new government's priority would be strengthening the economy and expressed confidence that, despite the ongoing war, Ukraine would become the strongest economy in Europe.

The change of prime minister is part of broader personnel changes. Some ministers are expected to be dismissed, while others will retain their posts. According to MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak from the “Golos“ party, Denys Shmygal will likely be appointed Minister of Defense of Ukraine to replace Rustem Umerov, who in turn will become ambassador to the United States.
