The approval rating of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has risen for the first time this year. The reason for the increase in support seems to be the decision of US President Donald Trump to impose 50% tariffs on imports from Brazil, which will take effect in August, Reuters reports, quoted by BTA.
According to a sociological survey published today, 43% of respondents say they approve of Lula's administration (an increase of three percentage points compared to the previous survey in May). At the same time, disapproval has decreased from 57% to 53%.
The survey was conducted by the "Quest" agency on behalf of the "Genial" brokerage company and covers 2,004 respondents surveyed between July 10 and 14.
The trade sanctions imposed by the US appear to have strengthened domestic support for the Brazilian president, as a reaction to external pressure and in a spirit of national solidarity.
