A Russian strike on a shopping complex in the city of Dobropilya in eastern Ukraine killed at least two people and wounded 27, local authorities said, several days after an ultimatum issued by US President Donald Trump to Moscow to end the war, reported Agence France-Presse quoted by BTA.
Trump on Monday gave Moscow 50 days to reach a peace agreement with Kiev, under threat of heavy sanctions, but Russian attacks in Ukraine continued.
"The Russians again deliberately attacked a place where many people gather - the shopping center in the heart of the city. This time they used a 500-kilogram (1,100-pound) cluster bomb," Donetsk region governor Vadim Filashkin wrote on Telegram.
The strike on the town of Dobropilya killed two people and injured 27, he said.
"There are probably people still buried under the rubble, and the search for survivors is ongoing," Filashkin added.
The regional governor shared photos showing a street covered in debris, as well as destroyed buildings and shops with windows shattered by the explosion.
President Volodymyr Zelensky described the Russian attack as "horrifying."
"There is no military logic in these strikes, just an attempt to take as many lives as possible," he said during his daily video address to nation.
Dobropilya is located about 20 kilometers from the eastern front line, where the fighting is particularly fierce. In recent weeks, the town has increasingly become the target of attacks by small Russian drones, AFP reports.
On Monday, Donald Trump gave Russia a 50-day ultimatum to end the war in Ukraine, under threat of heavy sanctions, and announced a major rearmament of Kiev through NATO. Trump's warnings, however, did not stop the strikes.
The previous night, about 15 people were injured across Ukraine in a Russian attack involving hundreds of drones, according to authorities.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched nearly 400 strike drones and numerous decoy drones overnight, of which 198 were shot down and 145 others were diverted without reaching their target.
In Nikopol, in central Ukraine, Russian artillery strikes killed one woman and wounded five people, rescue services reported on Telegram.
For several weeks, Russia has been stepping up its massive strikes on Ukraine, often using hundreds of drones and missiles supplied by its defense industry, which is working at full speed.
In Russia, one person was killed yesterday in an attack with Ukrainian drone in the Voronezh region, about 200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, regional governor Alexander Gusev announced today on "Telegram".
