The German government announced today that it has expelled 81 convicted Afghans, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.
This is the second such operation since last summer and demonstrates Berlin's determination to tighten its migration policy.
"The flight with the deportees departed for Afghanistan", said German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt.
The deportees are "Afghan men for whom a decision has been made to expel them and who have already been convicted by the criminal justice system", the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
The German ministry explained that the deportation is being carried out with the help of Qatar and that the government plans to deport more people to Afghanistan in the future, it noted Associated Press.
More than 10 months ago, Germany's previous government deported Afghans for the first time since the Taliban returned to power in 2021.
Current Chancellor Friedrich Merz has made stricter migration policies a central theme of his campaign for parliamentary elections in February.
