Israel will provide humanitarian aid to the Druze community in the southern Syrian province of Sweida, Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced today, quoted by Agence France-Presse, BTA reports.
The move comes after several days of bloody clashes between religious groups in the region, combined with Israeli airstrikes that have further worsened the situation.
“In light of the recent attacks on the Druze community in Sweida and the dire humanitarian situation in the area, Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has ordered the immediate provision of humanitarian aid,“ the Israeli Foreign Ministry said.
The aid, worth 2 million shekels (approximately $600,000), will include food packages and medical supplies, the ministry said.
