Thousands of people participated in demonstrations in Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities yesterday demanding the release of all hostages still held by the Islamists from "Hamas" in the Gaza Strip, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

"Six weeks ago I saw the sun again after 471 days in the "Hamas" tunnels. "Now, six months later, I still can't breathe without fear," former hostage Doron Steinbrecher said at a rally in Tel Aviv, The Times of Israel reports.

The crowd marched from the so-called Hostage Square in downtown Tel Aviv to the U.S. embassy compound in the city last night. The protesters called on U.S. President Donald Trump to pressure Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to bring indirect ceasefire talks with Hamas to a successful conclusion.

The talks in the Qatari capital of Doha have been ongoing for weeks, mediated by diplomats from Qatar, Egypt and the United States.

On Friday, Trump announced in Washington that 10 hostages would be released "very soon." However, it was not clear what his optimism was based on, DPA notes.
