After Donald Trump gave Vladimir Putin a 50-day ultimatum regarding the war in Ukraine, Europeans relaxed too much and turned their attention to Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip. But the Russian threat has not disappeared from this and there are no signs that Moscow is ready to give in to the American ultimatum.

Writing in the pages of The Telegraph, former British officer and military observer Hamish de Bretton-Gordon said: "The eyes of the world are fixed anywhere else but on the most dangerous situation on the planet at the moment: the war in Ukraine", he wrote, criticizing the indifference to the problem on the part of British politicians who are too "focused on their summer holidays".

He warns that the 50-day ultimatum will expire rather quickly and we must make sure that in September we are discussing a just peace for Ukraine, not a continuation of the war. According to the analyst, the only one who is currently paying due attention to the war, unfortunately, is Putin himself.

Hamish de Bretton-Gordon notes that Russia is already launching up to 500 drones into Ukraine almost every night and may soon significantly increase this figure.

"We know where these huge drone factories are: we must give Ukraine the weapons to destroy them", the author urges.

He criticized British society, which, in his opinion, has become too involved in the protests against Israel's military operation in Gaza, forgetting that not Israel, but Russia is the real threat to Europe. That is why the military expert calls not to wait passively when Trump's ultimatum to Putin expires.

"We should not give the Russian military free rein over the next five weeks to seize more territory, kill more Ukrainians and steal more children. We can prevent this by accelerating the delivery of weapons to Kiev", he writes.

The columnist also calls for more decisive action within the framework of the so-called "coalition of the willing". In particular, Hamish de Bretton-Gordon believes that it is necessary to "seriously consider" the possibility of using NATO aircraft to close the skies over major cities in Ukraine, at least over Kiev and Lviv.

"This would be a demonstration of intent that even the Kremlin would notice, and yet it could not be perceived as any form of attack on Russia. "If we fail to prevent the war that will engulf Europe this summer, none of us will be on vacation next summer," he emphasizes.
