Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said that Russian President Vladimir Putin made a serious mistake in his attitude towards Donald Trump.
The American president, irritated by Putin's reluctance to stop the war in Ukraine, said yesterday that he was giving Moscow a new deadline of 10 to 12 days to make progress in this direction. Trump had previously announced a deadline of 50 days.
“I completely understand President Trump's frustration with Russia's continued attacks on Ukraine, which show a lack of real desire for negotiations”, wrote Senator Lindsey Graham in X.
According to him, Putin has seriously misjudged Trump, adding that countries such as China, India and Brazil, which support Russian aggression against Kiev, should also pay. Congress is ready to force Putin to negotiate, Lindsey Graham said.
Trump said he would shorten the 50-day deadline he had set due to his frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump set the 50-day deadline earlier this month. The US president has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with Putin over his continued attacks on Ukraine despite US efforts to end the war.
Trump threatened new sanctions against Russia and countries that buy its goods unless a deal is reached. The American president had hoped to end the war in Ukraine “in 24 hours”, but he did not fulfill this promise.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday in his evening video address that peace is possible only if we act firmly and decisively, and added that "sanctions are a key element of this", Ukrinform reported, BTA reported.
Zelensky's words were on the occasion of US President Donald Trump's new deadline for Russia to end the war. "President Trump made an extremely important statement. And it is true - Russia is doing everything to disrupt peace efforts and prolong this war. Every night there are strikes, constant Russian attempts to harm Ukraine," Zelensky said.
"Russia complies with the sanctions, recognizes these losses. Peace is possible through force. "Ukraine, as always, is ready to work as productively as possible with America, to work with President Trump to end this war with dignity and with lasting peace," the Ukrainian leader stressed. He also thanked Ukraine's entire foreign policy team, which is working to build full-fledged relations with the United States. Zelensky also praised Trump's "express determination."
