Russia remains committed to the idea of a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, but will not change the course of its "special military operation". This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the new statements of US President Donald Trump, who shortened the time he would give to achieve peace from 50 to just 10-12 days.
In addition, Trump announced that he no longer wishes to talk personally with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the topic of Ukraine, the BBC recalls.
"We have taken note of President Trump's statements yesterday", Peskov said, emphasizing that Moscow continues its military actions, but at the same time retains "its commitment to the peace process to resolve the conflict around Ukraine and to guarantee our interests in this process".
The statement came in the context of new accusations by Ukraine about a Russian airstrike on a prison in the Zaporizhzhia region. According to Ukrainian authorities, 16 people died in the attack.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not yet commented on the incident, but Peskov categorically denied that Russia was responsible. "The Russian army does not strike at civilian targets. The strikes are carried out on military and paramilitary infrastructure," the Kremlin spokesman said, quoted by TASS.
