Students blocking the Faculty of Dramatic Arts at the University of Belgrade announced that they will organize a commemorative walk in the Serbian capital on Friday, August 1, to mark nine months since the collapse of the canopy at the Novi Sad train station, in which 16 people lost their lives and one was seriously injured, it became clear from a post on "Instagram", BTA reported.

"Nine months, we remember", they wrote on "Instagram" students from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in the Serbian capital.

The meeting point on August 1 is the old railway station in Belgrade at 7:00 p.m. local time (8:00 p.m. Bulgarian time - ed.)

After the tragedy in Novi Sad, mass anti-government protests, led mainly by students, raised demands for political and criminal responsibility for those responsible for the deadly incident, accusing the ruling party and the president of corruption and nepotism.

In May, the students demanded early parliamentary elections, but President Aleksandar Vucic - the only one who, according to the Serbian constitution, has the authority to call them, categorically refuses to do so.

The famous director Goran Markovic, son of the Serbian actor popular in Bulgaria from the film "The Peach Thief" Rade Markovic, has been fired for his support for protesting students, it became clear from posts on social media.

Goran Markovic learned from a message in his students' Viber group that other professors were teaching his course instead of him at the Faculty of Arts in the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad.

The director wrote a letter to the dean of the faculty and informed him that even if he received an invitation to continue teaching, he would not accept.

"My civic, academic and human duty is not to participate in the simulation of normal life in a country that is anything but normal. Finally, I just want to tell you that in my case you did not behave in a civilized manner, as befits the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, and I am sorry that we parted in such a rude way, "Marković wrote in his letter.

Goran Marković's father - Rade Marković, partnered with the famous Bulgarian actress Nevena Kokanova in the film "The Peach Thief" directed by Valo Radev.

The plot of the film is a tragic love story during the First World War between a Serbian prisoner of war and the wife of a Bulgarian colonel commanding the camp.

During the filming, Rade Marković and Nevena Kokanova fell in love, but they did not manage to connect their lives together.
