The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova ironically compared the European Union's interference in the parliamentary elections in Moldova with the "Clinton-Lewinsky" case, TASS reports.
She drew attention to the statement of the chairwoman of the Central Election Commission of Moldova, Angelica Karaman, who stated that EU countries have the right to interfere in the elections in the republic. According to her, Moldova is already one step away from becoming a member, so interference by a country like France in the elections is not considered foreign interference.
"Remind me of Bill Clinton's position before the jury, when he claimed that his interference in Monica Lewinsky's elections could not be considered foreign interference," the diplomat wrote on her Telegram channel.
We recall that Moldova accused Russia of preparing interference in the September elections.
The Russian Federation wants to control the Republic of Moldova from the fall onwards. This was stated by President Maia Sandu.
According to her, Russia is preparing unprecedented interference in the September elections.
The Moldovan head of state indicated that corruption in the elections and illegal foreign financing from Russia are the biggest threats to the parliamentary elections in September.
