The United States must compensate Iran for the losses it suffered during the war last month. This was stated by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in an interview with the Financial Times, quoted by Reuters, reports BTA.
„They must explain why they attacked us during the negotiations and guarantee that this will not happen again“, Araghchi said. „And they must compensate for the damage they caused us“, he added.
During and after the military conflict, Araghchi held talks with US special envoy Steve Witkoff. The Iranian diplomat stressed the need for „mutually beneficial solution“, which would lead to a way out of the long-standing impasse over Iran's nuclear program.
According to Araghchi, the resumption of talks must be accompanied by concrete confidence-building measures, including financial compensation and credible guarantees that Iran will not be subjected to new attacks during the diplomatic process. He did not specify the exact nature or amount of the compensation sought.
Last month, the United States carried out air strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, which Washington says are part of a military program to develop nuclear weapons. Tehran, however, denies this and claims that its nuclear program is entirely peaceful, civilian in nature.
The White House and the U.S. State Department have not yet commented on the matter.
