German police are investigating possible sabotage after a fire halted traffic on a main railway line between the cities of Düsseldorf and Duisburg today, and a letter was circulated online in which an organization calling itself "Angry Birds" claimed responsibility for the incident, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
A police spokesman said that investigators from the state security service were exploring all possibilities while experts examined the scene of the incident.
A letter claiming responsibility for the fire was distributed on the left-wing social media platform "Indymedia". In it, "Angry Birds Commando" claimed responsibility for the act.
"Many things would function infinitely better without the industrial system", the letter said. That is why the organization said it had "caused disruption".
A spokesman for the Düsseldorf police confirmed that authorities had also received the letter, but that they now had to check its authenticity. According to German law enforcement, in such cases it is possible that there are impersonators who falsely claim responsibility.
The results of the investigation are not expected immediately. German police suspect that the fire, which broke out in a cable duct, part of the railway's signaling system, was caused deliberately.
