Gas supplies through the "Orlovka" interconnection gas link on the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline near the village of Novosilske in Ukraine's Odessa region, which was attacked by drones by Russia yesterday, continued to flow today, Reuters reported, citing a statement from the Ukrainian gas transmission company operator, BTA reported.
Ukrainian officials said yesterday that Russia had hit a gas metering station near the border with Romania - in the Izmail region, through which liquefied natural gas passes to Ukraine from Azerbaijan. The Trans-Balkan gas pipeline also passes through Bulgaria. Last week, Ukraine's state energy company "Naftogaz" announced that it had signed its first agreement with Azerbaijan's SOCAR to import liquefied natural gas via the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, Reuters reported.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday that the Russian attack on the Orlovka station was an attempt to sabotage Ukraine's preparations for the heating season. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that its forces had attacked the pipeline, saying it supplies the Ukrainian army.
"Deliveries are proceeding as before," a representative of the company operating the Novosilsk interconnector told Reuters today. The company said that 420,000 cubic meters of gas should pass through the interconnection by the end of the day. Kiev considers the pipeline "extremely important", Reuters reported.
