Macron: Ukraine's future cannot be decided without Ukrainians - 1

The future of Ukraine cannot be decided without Ukrainians, said French President Emmanuel Macron, quoted by Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.

Macron made his statement after a conversation with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and before the planned meeting between US and Russian presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

The talks between the two will take place on August 15 in Alaska and aim to end the war in Ukraine.

"Europeans must also be part of the solution because their security is at risk," the French leader wrote in "Ex" and added that he also spoke today with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The meeting will be the first between a sitting US president and Putin since 2021, when Joe Biden met with Putin in Geneva.

Earlier yesterday, Trump said that Ukraine and Russia would likely "trade" parts of territories within the framework of an agreement to end the war and described the plans in this direction as very complex.

The American leader previously noted that he intends to first meet with Putin and then the talks to develop into a trilateral one, with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

However, the Kremlin expressed reservations about a meeting between Putin and Zelensky.

On Thursday, the Russian leader said that in his opinion it is not impossible to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart, but according to him, such negotiations require the necessary conditions and prerequisites, which in his opinion are far from being fulfilled.

Putin did not name his conditions, but the Kremlin has previously insisted that Ukraine give up the lands that Russia has occupied, including Crimea, which it illegally annexed in 2014, and also that the West stop supplying Kiev with weapons and rule out any possibility of Ukrainian membership in NATO.

Zelensky and his European allies rejected these demands.
