There are no plans to send Greek military units to Ukraine within the framework of the discussed security guarantees. This was stated by Greek government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis in an interview with “Sky“ television, BTA reports.

According to him, a possible participation with peacekeeping forces could be considered at a later stage of the consultations. “Hopefully we will reach that stage”, commented Marinakis. He specified that the decision on the method of participation is a matter of national choice for each country, and for Greece this will not include sending combat units.

The speaker also touched on the participation of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in videoconference meetings of the European People's Party and the European Council. According to him, the prime minister has assessed as a positive sign the fact that after the recent talks in the US and the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, there is "some visibility" of peace.

"What we must emphasize is the need for an immediate ceasefire," Marinakis said. He reiterated that Greece's position is based on the principles of international law and the inviolability of borders.

In his statement, the spokesman criticized opposition representatives who question Greece's support for the European position on Ukraine. "You cannot condemn the (Turkish) invasion of Cyprus and say about another invasion: 'It doesn't matter, let's look away,'" he said.

Marinakis stressed that Greece consistently opposes any revisionism and upholds the principle of equal value of human life. "The value of human life is the same whether it is a child in Ukraine, in Palestine or an Israeli hostage," he added.
