German federal prosecutors have charged a Russian citizen with planning an attack on the Israeli embassy in Berlin and trying to join the terrorist group "Islamic State", Reuters reported, citing an official statement, BTA reports.
According to investigators, the accused, identified only as Ahmad E. in accordance with German data protection rules, received instructions from the Internet to make explosives. However, his plans failed because he was unable to obtain the necessary components.
„Since early February, he had been planning to carry out an attack in Germany, for example against the Israeli embassy in Berlin“, federal prosecutors said.
The man was arrested in February at Berlin airport, and according to the indictment, he intended to travel to Pakistan to undergo military training with the “Islamic State“. He financed his trip by selling expensive smartphones acquired with subscription plans from mobile operators.
In addition, Ahmad E. is accused of translating propaganda materials into Russian and Chechen for the group.
On August 7, prosecutors formally charged him with preparing and inciting to commit serious violence that threatens the state. As a minor, he was already being investigated for attempting to join a terrorist organization abroad.
