The head of the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky Andriy Ermak announced that work is underway on the military component of guarantees for Ukraine's security in the event of a possible agreement to end the war with Russia, Reuters reported.
"Our teams, primarily the military, have begun active work on the military component of the guarantees for security", Ermak wrote in English in Ex after a meeting of national security advisers representing Western countries and NATO.
According to Ermak, Ukraine is also working with its allies on a plan for what to do "if Russia continues to drag out the end of the war and hinder the negotiation of agreements in bilateral and trilateral leadership formats".
Earlier, a Western official told Reuters that after a larger video conference, a small group of senior military officials continued discussions in Washington to identify possible options for ensuring Ukraine's security.
Lithuania would provide troops and equipment to any peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, President Gitanas Nauseda said in a television interview today, quoted by Reuters.
"We are ready to provide as many soldiers and equipment for peacekeeping as parliament has authorized," he told the local private TV channel TV3.
As part of intensified diplomacy to end the war, Western countries are discussing the possibility of sending peacekeeping forces to Ukraine if Moscow and Kiev reach a peace deal.
