Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky outlined today three main areas that, in his opinion, should underpin Ukraine's security - strengthening the army, international partnership and imposing sanctions against Russia in order to put pressure, Ukrinform reported, quoted by BTA.
Zelensky stressed that he could not reveal all the details on the topic, but highlighted the most important priorities. "The first and most important thing is our army. The main task is to ensure stable funding for the military personnel who protect the country's borders, "he said.
According to him, the main priorities of Ukraine, which must be implemented (including with international support), are the development of technologies, the production of weapons, drones, and others.
The second key pillar of security, according to Zelensky, is a system of partnership commitments that would compensate for the lack of full membership in NATO.
"We have always wanted to be part of NATO, but let's be honest - at the moment this is not possible. Therefore, if not NATO, we need to know exactly what our partners are ready to offer," he explained.
The third important element in security guarantees, according to him, is the sanctions mechanism, which should act preventively and deter possible new threats. This includes using frozen Russian assets to rebuild Ukraine.
He also pointed out that Ukraine's full membership in the European Union is an important element of the country's economic security.
Reuters added that Zelensky explicitly stated that he expects US President Donald Trump to participate in the negotiations.
"We need a clear structure that everyone understands. Then we want to meet with President Trump and present our vision to him," Zelensky said. He also stressed that Ukraine wants future security guarantees to be legislatively approved by the parliaments of allied countries.
