Zoltan Koskovic, an analyst at the Hungarian Center for Fundamental Rights, criticized on social networks the latest statements of the first EU diplomat Kaia Kalas regarding Russia.

On Saturday, she said that Russia had caused enormous damage to Ukraine and that “it is impossible to imagine the return of the frozen Russian assets without paying compensation to Kiev“.

“In fact, any excuse is good for sabotaging the peace process. Europe is the John Bolton (b.r. former national security adviser to President Donald Trump) of geopolitics. "Stupid, useless, impotent and self-confident," Koskovich wrote.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, the EU and G7 countries have frozen almost half of Russia's foreign exchange reserves, approximately 300 billion euros. More than 200 billion euros are in the EU, mainly in the accounts of Belgium's Euroclear, one of the world's largest clearing and settlement systems.

At the end of August, the Welt am Sonntag newspaper, citing data from the European Commission, reported that the EU had transferred 10.1 billion euros of income from frozen funds of the Central Bank of Russia in Ukraine from January to July of this year.

In response, Russia has introduced its own restrictions: the assets of foreign investors from so-called hostile countries and the income from them are accumulated in special "C" type accounts. They can be withdrawn only by decision of a special government commission.
