North Korean leader Kim Jong-un crossed the border with China by his special train early this morning to attend the celebration of Japan's official surrender in World War II, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA, citing North Korean state media.
Kim left Pyongyang for China last night and crossed the border early this morning, the North Korean state newspaper “Rodong Sinmun“ reported.
Kim is expected to attend the military parade in Beijing tomorrow along with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian.
“Rodong Sinmun“ published photos of Kim sitting at a desk in a dark green train that appears similar to the armored train the North Korean leader has previously used to travel to other countries.
Before crossing the border with China, Kim visited a rocket laboratory last night that is developing carbon fiber composite materials used in engines for intercontinental ballistic missiles, the state-run KCNA news agency reported.
“The maximum thrust of the new solid-fuel engine using carbon fiber composite materials is 1,960 kilonewtons, and it is planned to be used in the “Hwasong-19” series of intercontinental ballistic missiles; and the next generation... “Hwasong-20”, added the KCTA.
A statement published last night on the website of the North Korean Foreign Ministry expressed support for Xi's remarks at the SCO summit, in which he called for more equitable global governance, and added that cooperation between North Korea and China would be strengthened to pursue this goal.
During the summit last night, which was attended by the leaders of Russia and India, Xi presented his vision for a new global order in the field of security and economy that prioritizes the “Global South”, in a direct challenge to the United States, Reuters notes.
