Germany would welcome a tightening of US sanctions on Russia, said German cabinet spokesman Stefan Cornelius.
US President Donald Trump said at the White House on Sunday that he was ready to launch a second round of sanctions against Russia over the conflict in Ukraine.
„The German government, of course, has received this information and these statements by the US president with great interest. The German government has been trying to increase the pressure of sanctions on Russia for weeks and months and would welcome it if the US also joined this position. We all know that the US holds the key to increasing the pressure on Russia. And the debates of recent weeks and months also revolve essentially around developing a unified position regarding sanctions in the Western alliance against Russia. And in that sense, we have a positive attitude towards this statement by the American president,“ Cornelius said during a briefing on Monday.
