US President Donald Trump has told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that his decision to strike “Hamas“ in Qatar was not a good one, the American newspaper “Wall Street Journal“ reports, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
According to the newspaper, Trump made the comment during a heated conversation with Netanyahu on Tuesday after the attack, the world agency specifies. Netanyahu replied that he had a short window of time to strike and took advantage of the opportunity, the publication said.
A second phone call between the two later was cordial, with Trump asking Netanyahu if the attack had been successful, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing Reuters. The Israeli army killed six people in surprise strikes in a residential area of the Qatari capital Doha on Tuesday (September 9), angering Qatar.
Among the victims were the son of Khalil al-Haya, the Islamist movement's most influential figure abroad, and his chief of staff. Haya, who heads the Hamas delegation in ceasefire talks, survived, the group said.
The attack drew international condemnation from Arab states, China and European leaders. Qatar, along with Egypt and the United States, has been acting as a mediator between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza conflict for nearly two years. Ceasefire talks have been stalled for months.
