Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova sharply criticized Poland's decision to close its border with Belarus due to joint military exercises with Russia, called “Zapad-2025“, reports Ukrainskaya Pravda, reports Focus.
Zakharova described Warsaw's actions as “confrontational steps“, which, in her opinion, are aimed at justifying “further escalation of tensions in the center of Europe“. She stressed that closing the border would harm Poland and its partners and called on Warsaw to reconsider the decision as soon as possible.
According to Focus, Poland's decision to close the border with Belarus comes into effect from the evening of the same day. It was taken even before the incident with the downing of Russian drones on Polish territory.
The military exercises “Zapad-2025“ will be held from September 12 to 16 in cooperation between Russia and Belarus.
At the same time, the Latvian Seimas adopted a decision to completely close the country's borders with Russia and Belarus during the exercises.
