Former Chief Justice of Nepal Sushila Karki was sworn in as the country's interim government chief, Indian media reported on Friday, FOCUS reported.
The 73-year-old Karki is expected to head the government until the next elections, which she said should be held within a year at the latest.
According to The Hindustan Times, she will be the first woman to hold the post of Nepal's prime minister.
Karki headed the Supreme Court from 2016 to 2017, and before that she worked as a lawyer. She is considered an active fighter against corruption.
Former Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli resigned during large-scale protests.
Late last week, the authorities in Nepal imposed a ban on the activities of a number of large social networks. This requirement is part of the authorities' broader policy aimed at regulating social networks, opponents of the measures called it an attempt at censorship and combating government critics.
