There is intense traffic at the "Simitli" junction, where the "Struma" motorway merges with the main road E-79. Traffic is moving normally.
The big clean-up is expected to begin in the afternoon. Increased police presence at key locations and speed and alcohol checks are just some of the measures that the Ministry of Interior is taking today to ease the clean-up after the long weekend.
In the late afternoon, when traffic is expected to be heaviest, restrictions will be introduced for heavy goods vehicles over 12 tons. Reversible traffic has been introduced in the Simitli area – two lanes to accommodate traffic from Greece and Bansko to the capital.
Due to the expected heavy traffic at the end of the weekend, there are also changes in traffic on the "Hemus" highway. Traffic in the direction of Sofia will be in two lanes from the Yana highway to the capital. Travelers to Varna will pass through Dolni Bogrov and Gorni Bogrov. The RIA assures that the repairs that began on the highway will be completed by the end of October in the Sofia lane.
