“The Cabinet has shown resilience and has functioned for a sufficiently long period of time so that it is aware of both the genesis of the crises and the ways in which they can be resolved.“ He stated this in the program “Supportive People“ on Bulgaria ON AIR television Atanas Zafirov, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the coalition “BSP-UNITED LEFT“.

He was categorical that no government can endlessly justify itself with inherited problems.

„You see that new and new bombs are being thrown every day and they are certainly a consequence of this negligence accumulated over the years and lack of desire for any type of action to resolve this series of crises. It is this government that has the responsibility and the political will to start resolving them“, said the Deputy Prime Minister.

He explained that the government's approach to them will be integrated between all departments and through the implementation of short-term and long-term measures.

Regarding the water disaster in “Elenite“ Deputy Prime Minister Zafirov commented that the Minister of Environment and Water has ordered inspections in all resort complexes, for which the issue of overbuilding is not from yesterday or today. The BSP Chairman insisted that the government will take a preventive approach there as well.

“If the state is in its place and if we want to respect ourselves as statesmen, this is exactly how it should be approached“, said Zafirov in response to a question about whether buildings will be demolished.

“I personally would get on the excavator that would push illegal buildings if it is proven that there are such, regardless of the name behind them. I think that this should be the approach of the state“, he added.

In his capacity as Chairman of the National Water Board, Atanas Zafirov pointed out that, in addition to all other measures, legislative changes are necessary, since our legislation does not facilitate, but on the contrary, hinders the process, especially in emergency conditions. Among the necessary changes, he singled out the Public Procurement Law and the Water Law. Zafirov assured that an interdepartmental working group has already been created in the work of the board, which provides proposals for urgent regulatory amendments.

The issue of cutting the powers of the presidential institution in the appointment of the heads of the security services – DANS and DATO, the Chairman of “BSP-UNITED LEFT“ commented by emphasizing that there is a difference between an elected and a temporary acting position. He insisted that one cannot remain in such a "staggered position", in which the state services function with a temporary staff, and recalled that only a few years ago the parliament elected the chairmen of SANS and DATO.

“There is nothing dramatic in this. No constitutional powers are affected, at least, I repeat, not long ago the election regime was exactly like that - through parliament”, added Atanas Zafirov.
