Bulgaria will provide an air corridor for Russian President Vladimir Putin, if requested, to reach Budapest for his meeting with US President Donald Trump.

This became clear from the words of Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev in Luxembourg, BNR reported.

"When efforts are made to achieve peace, if the condition for this is to have a meeting, it is most logical for such a meeting to be mediated by all possible means," Georgiev pointed out.

Asked if this means that our country will provide an air corridor, the minister answered laconically, asking:

"And how is it proposed to hold the meeting if one of the participants does not can reach it".

"We really hope that we are closer to a sustainable peace for Ukraine, although the Russian side is definitely not making such efforts and despite the hostile mood, reinforced by the drone and missile strikes of recent days," Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev told journalists in Luxembourg, where he is participating in a meeting of his EU colleagues.

He pointed out that Bulgaria supports the proposed new sanctions against Russia.

In response to questions related to the announced meeting in Budapest between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the possibility of the Russian delegation flying over our country on its way to Hungary, Minister Georgiev insisted on first waiting for the meeting to be scheduled.

"Let such a meeting be scheduled first and then we can get into its technical details," he said.

According to him, nothing about Ukraine could be resolved without Ukraine.

"Bulgaria will continue to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine with all possible means and means. Only a strong Ukraine can guarantee stability in Europe," Georgiev added.

The minister noted that work is underway on infrastructure to ensure security in the Black Sea region.

"This is a critical area for us, bordering on war, which requires specific actions," Georgiev noted.

"The presence of our partners and allies from NATO and the EU in the Black Sea is a topic that we constantly raise," he pointed out.

In response to a question, the minister specified that our country supports the start of EU accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova.

In response to a question about the Republic of North Macedonia (RNM), Georgiev stated that, unfortunately, one of the unpleasant properties of elections is that they bring to the surface thoughts and words of politicians, which they probably later regret.

"We should not hostages of European politics and international relations our domestic political challenges", he urged.

"I hope that after the elections in the RSM are over, the passions there will calm down and the government will be able to devote itself to its clear commitments made in 2022. Bulgaria has no change in its position, nor reason for change. The RSM Constitution must be changed in all its parts, the Bulgarians must be included, as a first step to starting negotiations", Georgiev explained.
