A quarter of Bulgarians manage to save

Nearly half of people save "white money for a rainy day", and about 45% indicate that they set aside for vacations and trips

A quarter (25%) of Bulgarians save, and in one year the number of saving citizens has increased by over 170 thousand people – this shows a study by "Trend“ on our saving habits, commissioned by the Expert Club for Economics and Politics.

We save the most for emergencies and accidents - 64% of those surveyed answered this way. Nearly half of people save "white money for a rainy day", and about 45% indicate that they set aside for vacations and trips.

A third of those surveyed indicated that they save for healthcare or planned repairs. The youngest people save the least – only 10% of them. Nearly half of Bulgarians with higher education save, unlike those with secondary education - one in ten.

The share of people who consider investing in real estate to be a reliable protection against inflation has decreased by 4 percentage points. At the same time, a 30% increase is reported in the number of Bulgarians who invest in gold.

Almost half of Bulgarians (48%) have no savings at all. Those who manage to set aside funds, largely keep them in cash or in a bank deposit, without investing them.

"25% of Bulgarian society saves – this is the good news. Unfortunately, to a large extent, these people save between 10 and 20% of their income. Three-quarters of Bulgarians who save save up to 20%, which is not such positive news“, investment expert Max Baklayan commented to Radio Sofia.

According to him, women are more likely to save.

"Bulgarians are more pessimistic, skeptical. We save "white money for rainy days". So a very large part of people save precisely for accidents“, Baklayan explained.

He added that the percentage of people who save for investments is low – below 9%.

"The number of savers is certainly growing, but the number of those thinking about what to do with the money saved is also growing," said Max Baklayan.

According to him, on an annual basis, the number of Bulgarians investing in investment gold has increased by one third, or about 140,000 people in our country who make such an investment.
