34% of Bulgarians believe that there is life after death, while half (50%) do not share this belief. Women are significantly more likely to believe in the afterlife than men. It is striking that with increasing age, the share of those who agree that there is life after death increases.

This is shown by the data from a survey by „Trend“ commissioned by „24 hours”, dedicated to attitudes towards supernatural phenomena and conspiracy theories. The survey was conducted between October 13 and 19, 2025 through a direct semi-standardized "face-to-face" interview with a tablet among 1000 people aged 18+.

31% believe that a person is reincarnated, while 53% indicate that they do not believe.

The most widespread belief among Bulgarians is that “everything comes back“ – 65% of those surveyed believe in karma, or approximately over 3.5 million people. Women are more likely to believe in karma than men. Only 10% indicate that they do not believe at all.

Almost half of Bulgarians (47%) believe that fate is partly predetermined and partly the result of personal choice, which reveals a nuanced understanding between faith and personal responsibility. Equal shares of 23% share both extreme opinions – that fate is either completely predetermined or entirely in the hands of man.

38% or just over 2 million of Bulgarians admit to having visited a fortune teller or clairvoyant, and 14% - an astrologer. Women are significantly more likely to resort to such consultations. Visits to psychics (11%) and numerologists (9%) are relatively rare, but their presence shows interest in alternative forms of prediction.

More than half of Bulgarians (58%) believe that there are people with supernatural abilities, while 30% do not share this opinion. A similar share (56%) believes in curses and spells.

Almost every second Bulgarian (47%) believes that there are secret societies that rule the world, while 36% hold the opposite opinion.

44% believe that there are signs and omens that predict the future. Almost as many people do not share this opinion (43%). Regarding the belief that zodiac signs and astrology determine character and fate, the majority (51%) disagree, but 37% still believe in this connection. Here, younger generations (18-39 years old) demonstrate a higher tendency to identify with a belief in astrology.

The results show that belief in the supernatural and conspiratorial is not a marginal phenomenon, but an important element of the culture and identity of Bulgarians.
