From January 2026, the fee for issuing an ID card will be 30 leva for a document with a validity period of 10 years and 21 leva for a 4-year validity period.
Currently, these prices are 18 and 13 leva, respectively, which are valid until the end of this year.
Identity documents can be replaced even before their validity period expires.
Applications can be submitted to the Bulgarian Identity Documents sector in any regional office on the territory of the respective region through a regular service.
Another option for facilitating administrative services is the electronic administrative services portal of the Ministry of Interior at the internet address: e-uslugi.mvr.bg. Through it, any Bulgarian citizen holding a valid Bulgarian qualified electronic signature can submit an application for the issuance of an identity card and/or passport or request receipt of a certificate of events and facts related to the issuance of documents.
The deadline for submitting an application for the renewal of an identity card is 30 (thirty) days after the date of expiration of the validity of the identity card. Failure to comply with the deadline for issuing an identity card or replacing an already issued, but expired, card is subject to a fine of 50 (fifty) to 250 (two hundred and fifty) leva.
