Most 24-hour pharmacies will have a break in their working hours on New Year's Day. This will be necessary to set up the software for currency conversion. It is expected that they will be working as usual in the early afternoon of January 1st.

It is recommended that you obtain everything you need in advance and inform yourself about the working hours of the nearest pharmacy. Difficulties are also expected with card payments, so it is good to have cash on hand, NOVA reports.

It is not ruled out that when paying in cash after midnight, employees may not have enough euros and return change in leva.

In addition to the fact that pharmacies will stop working on New Year's Eve to make the necessary preparations for the euro, other challenges are also expected.

"Between December 31 and January 1, all systems must first be updated during the night. And I have concerns that it is likely that one of these things will not work. That is, on the 1st, it is possible that some of the bank terminals will not have updated and it will not be possible to pay by card. It is possible that there will be problems in many pharmacies at least until noon. Among other things, the small change that we receive from banks - despite the prior request - is extremely insufficient. So customers should know that we have the right to refund in leva when we don't have enough euros. They should be prepared for this," warned Nikolay Kostov, chairman of the Association of Pharmacy Owners.
