Zafirov: I take Borisov's remark that the government was weakened because of the BSP as a compliment

According to him, including Rumen Radev's new project, it will not collect more than half of the votes of all Bulgarian voters

„I thank all of you who are here for your support. I have always felt like the first among equals and I have never experienced myself as a “leader”, such as we have seen in the last 30 years. Our biggest task now is to maintain unity in the party, not to deny our achievements and to take into account the mistakes so that we never repeat them“. This was stated by the Chairman of the National Council of the BSP and the BSP-United Left, Atanas Zafirov, at a meeting with members and supporters in Targovishte.

„As Chairman of the BSP, I made maximum efforts to be in dialogue with all party structures. However, I consider our communication policy a mistake, because many of the things we did failed to reach the people and our participation in the government remained insufficiently well explained”, Atanas Zafirov pointed out.

In terms of internal party plans, he considered the party's transition through the financial and organizational crisis and the unification of the left-wing political space as successes.

In his words, the government was necessary to put an end to the spiral of elections.

“I'm not saying it was easy. We took over the government at an extremely difficult time for the country. We have had to bang on the table many times - both for the continuation of the Swiss rule, and for the preservation of the reactors of the Belene NPP, and for not sending Bulgarian soldiers to Ukraine.

"Boyko Borisov's remark that the government was weakened because of the BSP, I take it as a compliment. This is like “Levski” to blush because of CSKA”, said Zafirov.

He emphasized that in one year this government did not generate a single corruption scandal, which has not happened in the recent history of Bulgaria.

Atanas Zafirov explained that, like in Europe, the tendency in Bulgaria is that a single-party government cannot be formed and that it is governed by coalitions.

According to him, even Rumen Radev's new project will not collect more than half of the votes of all Bulgarian voters.

„The parties must show nationally responsible behavior and the ability to make reasonable compromises. Everything else is a road to nowhere”, Zafirov was categorical.
