Toma Tomov: I am for Bulgaria to be in Europe, in NATO and in an alliance with the United States, but with dignity

According to him, Donald Trump is acting like a "wrecking ball" that is destroying existing international institutions - NATO, the European Union, the International Criminal Court and even the UN itself

A bombastic speech lasting 72 minutes, filled with sharp messages to Europe, was delivered by US President Donald Trump from Davos - a place that for many years was a symbol of globalism.

Journalist and international analyst Toma Tomov told BTV that in the public space in Sofia there are "two axiomatic figures of evil" - Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. Tomov emphasized that he does not share this approach and does not view world processes through the lens of demonization.

He expressed his position on the topic of international law, historical arguments and modern borders, emphasizing that international law was created after World War II precisely to prevent wars and arbitrariness.

Tomov recalled that after the victory over Nazi Germany, the USA, the USSR and Great Britain created the United Nations and the system of international law, at a time when the United States was the leading economic power in the world. According to him, this order is in deep crisis today.

According to him, Donald Trump is acting as a “wrecking ball“, which is destroying existing international institutions - NATO, the European Union, the International Criminal Court and even the UN itself. Tomov raised the question of what would happen if the US decided to leave the UN and what the consequences would be for the global system.

He stressed that the world is entering a new phase in which the unipolar order of the 1990s and the beginning of the 21st century is disintegrating. According to him, the US remains a leading force in scientific and technological progress and innovation, but is no longer the undisputed hegemon.

At the same time, according to Tomov, China is taking the position of a defender of the old international order and the principles of international law - a role that until recently was characteristic of the West.

The analyst also commented on the way Trump conducts his foreign policy, defining it as a corporate and transactional approach, in which relations with allies are based on economic benefit, not values.

In this context, Tomov questioned Bulgaria's participation in the so-called “board for peace“, defining it as a supra-sovereign private club or investment fund that has nothing to do with classical diplomacy and international institutions.

He stated that the signing of documents by the Bulgarian Prime Minister in resignation is humiliating and puts the country in a subordinate position.

“I am for Bulgaria to be in Europe, in NATO and in an alliance with the United States, but with dignity“, Tomov emphasized.

He also commented on President Rumen Radev, whom he stated has charisma and is part of the political wave that is sweeping Europe. Tomov expressed his personal support for him, emphasizing that Radev has a cause and the potential to lead social change.

“I will vote for him“, said Toma Tomov, adding that Europe will be unrecognizable in the coming years.
