Karina Karaivanova's candidacy for Deputy Governor, Head of the "Issue" Department of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), has been submitted to the National Assembly, a report on its website shows.

Karaivanova was nominated by the Governor of the central bank Dimitar Radev on March 4, BTA recalls.

The procedure came to this after the previous Deputy Governor of the BNB, Head of the “Issue“ Department, Andrey Gyurov resigned from his post and became acting Prime Minister.

The Parliament adopted procedural rules for the election of a Deputy Governor of the BNB, according to which the Governor of the bank submits a proposal for a candidate for Deputy Governor to the Budget Committee through the Speaker of Parliament. The proposal, together with the attached documents, are published on a specialized thematic site on the website of the National Assembly no later than seven days before the hearing in the Budget and Finance Committee.

The voting is open, through the computerized system of the Parliament. The candidate is considered elected if he receives more than half of the votes of the members of parliament present. If he does not receive the required number of votes, the National Assembly adopts a decision to open a new election procedure.

Karina Karaivanova has many years of professional experience in the field of public finance and the financial sector. She has held senior positions in the Ministry of Finance, including as Deputy Minister of Finance, was Chairwoman of the Financial Supervision Commission, and currently represents Bulgaria on the Board of Directors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
